‘We Are Committed To Youth Development In Ifako-Ijaiye’
Hon. Dayo Saka Fafunmi, Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, recently held an interactive session with stakeholders’ of his constituency at the NRC Building, Bola
Ahmed Tinubu Way, Iju. Theme: “Towards a Better Constituency Engagement.” Apart from reviewing happenings in the local government so far in the current political dispensation, issues discussed at the forum
included the needs of the community, especially in the areas of infrastructure and liberating people from poverty. It also deliberated on how to sustain projects initiated by Hon. Fafunmi in the constituency.
Hon. Fafunmi later shared with this magazine his vision for the constituency’s youth development. Excerpt:
What is your plan for the youth?
You know that the strength of any country or any nation lies in the youth. If you take a look at my constituency, only about 5 to 7 percent are educated. There are very few who I think we need to engage by
taking them off the street by giving them a special institute so that most of them can be self-employed. The only area they can judiciously expend their energy is by engaging in sporting activities. My local
government is known for sport. At a point, we produced two members of the Golden Eaglets’. In this tenure, we are working hard to ensure resources are in place to take our youths to greater height.
Saka Fafunmi Town Hall meeting, what are your impressions on this event?
If you look at my constituency there are several people we have been taken from the streets to be trained in institutions. We want to provide a level playing ground to engage the youths, as it will be counter-
productive if we do not allow the youths to expend their raw energy on productive activities.
How often should Ifako-Ijaiye constituency expect this type of event in a year?
Ideally we are hoping that we do this at least two times in a year, so that we can intimate them with what we have done. And to assimilate other views for the development of our constituency, Ifako-Ijaiye.
