We can’t dictate to NUC, says OAU on disaccredited courses

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) says it cannot tell the National University Commission (NUC) what to do over the disaccreditation of courses in the school.

Biodun Olanrewaju, OAU public relations officer, said this while addressing journalists in his office on Friday.

A few months ago, the NUC had disaccredited six courses offered by the institution.

The courses include law, dentistry, fine and applied arts, botany, family nutrition and consumer sciences.

“The school is doing everything humanely possible to make sure everything bounce back to normal as we can not dictate for the commission. When they are ready they will come,” Olanrewaju said.

“We are still expecting them as no university will be happy to have her courses disaccredited.”

He added that the school has obtained all the requirements listed by NUC.

TheCable also learnt that the nursing department had also been disaccredited but the school’s PRO said he had no information on it.

The disaccreditation of the courses has left some admission seekers in a state of limbo as most universities have released their admission lists.

Prospective students who selected any of the disaccredited courses in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were advised to change their course or institution.

This is not the first time OAU has fallen into such troubles as the accreditation of the law faculty was withdrawn in 2006.
